Say $\mathrm{Tr}(U\sigma_1) = -e^{i\lambda}\sin(\frac{\theta}{2})+e^{i\phi}\sin(\frac{\theta}{2})$. There is more than one variable involved in each such trace; a simple arcsin/arccos wouldn't work...at least the way I'm seeing it. | |

(I'm asking in case you already considered that but it didn't suit you for some reason) | |
